Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Breathing Places campaign to aid Swansea wildlife

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, the City and Council of Swansea and local wildlife groups will co-host the launch of a ground-breaking initiative – Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Breathing Places Cities – at one of 15 Springwatch Festivals across the UK.

Ìý

The Swansea Springwatch Festival takes place in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June. With the strap-line of "Do One Thing", Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Breathing Places aims to breathe new life into urban wildlife in cities across the UK.

Ìý

Susan Wood, producer Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Wales, Broadcast Development, says: "We are asking everyone who comes to the Springwatch Festival to 'Do One Thing' for wildlife in Swansea. It could be as simple as putting up a nest box in their back garden or as ambitious as helping to create a wildlife garden on a local housing estate or in hospital grounds.

Ìý

"By working with the City and Council of Swansea, and local wildlife and conservation groups including Wildlife Trust Wales and Countryside Council for Wales, we hope that Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Breathing Places will inspire thousands of people to take simple actions to help transform the city for wildlife and turn Swansea into a breathing place."

Ìý

The City and Council of Swansea and local wildlife organisations such as Swansea Wildfowl and Wetland Trust, Swansea Environment Centre, Pride in the Community - Penlan, Community Farm, Gower Commons Initiative local braches of the Wildlife Trust (South West Wales), BTCV, RSPB, The Woodland Trust and the Environment Agency as well as the Caer Las Homeless Project – in partnership with Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Breathing Places – have set targets for their year of wild action.

Ìý

Ideas are eclectic – from a wildlife roundabout, butterfly gardens and pond dipping, to a green safari, orchard planting and a new bog garden.

Ìý

Swansea's Springwatch Festival will also offer the perfect family day out. From close-up encounters with wildlife, to trying a range of activities, joining a Springwatch Garden Party, or learning how to become a Springwatch Tracker, there is something for everyone.
