Radio 3 extends partnership with London Jazz Festival and announces 2007 broadcast details

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 is pleased to announce a new five-year deal as the principal media partner of the London Jazz Festival, extending the existing deal which has run since 2001.

Ìý

The new deal, which runs from 2008 to 2012, further enables Radio 3 to extend the festival's reach as a truly international event, broadcasting to audiences in the UK and worldwide with extensive coverage of the festival on-air and online.

Ìý

Roger Wright, Controller, Radio 3, says: "I am delighted that we are able to extend the successful partnership between Radio 3 and the London Jazz Festival, one of the most important jazz festivals in the world. This new deal will ensure that live jazz will remain a key part of Radio 3's unique commitment to new music in the future."

Ìý

Claire Whitaker, Director, London Jazz Festival, adds: "The partnership with Radio 3 is enormously important to us. It allows the festival to grow boldly into the future, to travel in often surprising artistic directions, and to consolidate our status as a major national event with international horizons.

Ìý

"As the relationship between Radio 3 and the London Jazz Festival has grown since its first year in 2001, I've come to think of it as an extremely happy marriage. With the announcement of this new five-year deal, it feels like an equally happy renewal of vows."

Ìý

Now in its 16th year, this year's London Jazz Festival (Friday 16 to Sunday 25 November 2007) pays tribute to the continuing influence of the jazz tradition whilst celebrating today's contemporary artists.

Ìý

Performances will be featured in Radio 3's specialist jazz output – Jazz On 3, Jazz Line-Up – and in Late Junction, World Routes, Performance On 3 and In Tune, as well as specially-recorded Jazz Library and Jazz Record Requests programmes themed around the festival.

Ìý

Like Radio 3, the London Jazz Festival celebrates a wide variety of music. The wide-ranging programme of music is characterised by innovation and inspiration, encouraging emerging talent through commissioning new works and recognising established artists of the genre.

Ìý

The festival encompasses a wide variety of London venues, from major concert halls such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican, the newly-refurbished Radio Theatre at Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Broadcasting House, to the capital's vibrant jazz clubs.

Ìý

Radio 3 and the London Jazz Festival bring audiences one of the most exciting line-ups of the year, on stage, on radio and online, including performances by Blue Note trumpeter Charles Tolliver's celebrated Big Band; a special concert to celebrate the music of Ella Fitzgerald on the 90th anniversary of her birth – We All Love Ella – featuring some of the worlds finest vocalists and the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Concert Orchestra; and acclaimed accordionist Richard Galliano.

Ìý

All the Radio 3 concerts will be available to listen again for up to seven days after broadcast at bbc.co.uk/radio3.
