Hope Springs: Ronni Ancona & Sian Reeves all set for Scots drama

Ronni Ancona (The Big Impression, Ronni Ancona & Co) and Sian Reeves (Cutting It, Northern Lights, The Two Of Us) will star alongside Alex Kingston (Doctor Who, ER) in Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú One's vibrant new eight-part peak-time drama, Hope Springs.

Ìý

Made through Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland by Shed Productions, Hope Springs focuses on the fortunes of Ellie, Hannah, Josie and Shoo – four fabulous ex-cons trying to go straight.

Ìý

However, when their plans to start a new life in Barbados go awry, the girls find themselves in hiding in a remote Scottish village.

Ìý

Other Hope Springs cast include Paul Higgins (The Last Enemy, The Thick Of It), Vinette Robinson (The Passion), Alec Newman (Reichenbach Falls) and Lorraine McIntosh (River City, My Name Is Joe).

Ìý

Sian Reeves will play Hannah, a coiled spring of buried emotions, while Vinette Robinson plays Josie, a temperamental free spirit.

Ìý

Alex Kingston stars as Ellie, the feisty, sexy leader of the gang and Christine Bottomley (The Street) plays the streetwise Shoo, a girl with more front than Blackpool.

Ìý

Ronni Ancona plays the women's feisty nemesis Anne Marie, who harbours doubts about their true identity – especially when she suspects her fiancée Gil is attracted to Ellie.

Ìý

Paul Higgins plays Gil, the local policeman caught between two women, Alec Newman stars as Hope Springs' bullish solicitor and estate agent Euan Harries while Lorraine McIntosh takes on the role of Euan's much put-upon wife, Ina.

Ìý

Other cast include Annette Crosbie (Little Dorrit, One Foot In The Grave) as Sadie, local fount of all knowledge (and gossip), whose life gets entangled with the women's soon after their arrival in the village.

Ìý

Set against the stunning backdrop of gorgeous Scottish scenery, filming on Hope Springs begins later this month on location in Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway.

Ìý

Interior shots will be filmed at Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland's newly-developed drama studios in Dumbarton.

Ìý

The eight-part series is scheduled to transmit on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú One in 2009.

Ìý

Hope Springs is written by Ann McManus, Maureen Chadwick and Liz Lake (Shed Productions).

Ìý

The first of four filming blocks will be produced by Brian Park, who will also executive produce the drama for Shed Productions along with Anne Mensah, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland Head of Drama.

Ìý

Hope Springs continues in the footsteps of distinctive drama recently made through Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland, which includes kung-fu action tale Phoo Action (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Three) and surreal crime drama The Reichenbach Falls (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Four).

Ìý

It is the latest in a recent wave of exciting Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú One drama commissions for 2008/9, including Merlin (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Drama/Shine Limited), Survivors and Tess Of The D'Urbervilles (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Drama Productions).
