Tom Archer appointed Controller of Factual Production, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Vision


Peter Salmon, Chief Creative Officer, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Vision Productions, announced today that Tom Archer has been confirmed in the post of Controller, Factual Production, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Vision having been acting in the role since May.

Based in Bristol, he will have overall responsibility for the factual production departments in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester with a portfolio of programmes ranging from the Natural History Unit's output, to Watchdog, Horizon, Gardeners' World, Songs Of Praise and The One Show.

Tom Archer says: "My aim is to make sure the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's own factual departments are world class, like the Natural History Unit, bringing the audience the most fantastic experiences we can create, and to do that at a time of unprecedented change in both how programmes are made and how we choose to watch them."

In addition to the Acting Controller role (following Keith Scholey's departure), Tom has remained as Head of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Vision's Documentaries and Features Department in Bristol but will now relinquish those responsibilities, and that post will be advertised shortly.

In Bristol he has executive produced a variety of programmes ranging from Great Britons and Ray Mears to Antiques Roadshow and DIY SOS.

Last year the department won both the Grierson and RTS awards for best documentary series with Anatomy Of A Crime.

Ìý

Tom also worked as the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's Commissioner for Documentaries and Contemporary Factual, and was responsible for commissioning long-running hits such as Coast, Tribe, Who Do You Think You Are? and Grumpy Old Men.

Before joining the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú in 2002, Tom was Controller of Granada Bristol (formerly United Productions), creating their specialist documentary department, which made history series for ITV and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Two, plus the David Starkey series Elizabeth and Six Wives Of Henry VIII for Channel 4.

Prior to that he was an investigative journalist and led the Channel 4 Dispatches team in their high-profile investigation of the Bristol baby heart surgery scandal.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Vision Productions is the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's in-house production arm. At any one time the department has about 4,000 programme and multiplatform programme makers in four genre groups across the whole of the UK including drama, entertainment, comedy and factual.
