10th anniversary season of Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts live from Wigmore Hall

In its 10th Anniversary year, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert presents a stellar line-up for 2008/09.

Some of the world's most celebrated singers and instrumentalists, including pianist Angela Hewitt, soprano Kate Royal, baritone Sir Thomas Allen, violinist Leonidas Kavakos, clarinettist Michael Collins and the Emerson String Quartet appear alongside new and emerging talent and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 New Generation Artists.

The American Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio open the series with an all-Beethoven programme (15 September), followed by a piano recital from the pre-eminent Angela Hewitt, who celebrates her 50th birthday in 2008 (22ÌýSeptember), and soprano Kate Royal takes to the stage with a French programme of songs by Ravel, Fauré, and Cateloube (29 September).

The series offers some innovative programming, including improvisations on the electric cello from Matthew Barley (6ÌýApril) and the Calefax Wind Ensemble (22 June) who make their Wigmore Hall debut with a special arrangement of Bach's Goldberg Variations.

Contralto Anna Larsson also makes her Wigmore Hall debut, accompanied by one of the greatest pianists of our age, Stephen Kovacevich (24 November).

Many new artists are welcomed to the series including rising stars the Capuçon Brothers (violin and cello) with Antoine Tamestit (viola) and Nicholas Angelich (piano – who returns to play a solo recital later in the series), and distinguished pianists Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Boris Giltburg.

 The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts were established at Wigmore Hall in 1998 by Adam Gatehouse (Radio 3 Editor, Live Music). The series celebrates its 10th Anniversary this season, and over these 10 years the artist roll call is impressive: Lorraine Hunt Lieberson sang in the first season. Alfredo Perl, Céclile Ousset, Barbara Bonney and Emmanuel Ax all featured in early seasons. Others made their Wigmore debuts, including Dorothea Röschmann and Joyce DiDonato. In 1999 Radio 3 launched the New Generation Artists scheme, and the calibre of the young artists was such that they were soon integrated into the lunchtime programme.

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme offers young artists and groups unique opportunities to develop their considerable talents. The Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts are a key platform for these stars of the future. New Generation Artists appearing at Wigmore Hall this season are violist Maxim Rysanov, soprano Elizabeth Watts, tenor Allan Clayton, mezzo-soprano Daniela Lehner, the Pavel Haas Quartet and pianists Ingrid Fliter and Shai Wosner.
