Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio Nottingham is once again staging its Big Night Out in Nottingham on Wednesday 5 August, inviting people to sample the sights and sounds of the city centre at night.

Join Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker and other presenters from the station in the Old Market Square beach from 6.30pm to launch the night and revel in some free entertainment.

Big Night Out is all about celebrating the range of activities the city has to offer after dark, with many of the restaurants and venues coming together to offer special deals to entice people to attend and enjoy themselves.

Entertainment this year includes live music courtesy of local band The Beetroot Kings, and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Nottingham's weather presenter Des Coleman is putting on a special performance for revellers.

Des is no stranger to performing, having appeared in West End musicals in the past and, of course, as Lenny in EastEnders. At last year's Big Night Out Des succeeded in getting 2,000 people dancing along when he sang from the top of a bus!

Following the live fun, people can then go to see what delights Nottingham has to offer after dark, including a range of special offers from local businesses, restaurants and venues, which have been organised by Nottingham City Council.

The Big Night Out idea originated in 2007 when Radio Nottingham breakfast show presenter Andy Whittaker decided to attempt to change the perception some people still held of going out and about in Nottingham city centre.

Andy was tired of hearing tales of people claiming that the city centre of Nottingham was overrun by people just wanting to drink after dark. He was determined to prove that this is not the impression he gets when he goes out at night.

Andy aimed to show that there are numerous activities to enjoy in the city centre that bring people together to reclaim the streets, whether they are old or young.

Andy says: "I've been delighted at how many people have supported the Big Night Out in the past, some of them coming into Nottingham at night for the first time in years! At the event last summer, there was noticeably a much better age range of people out at night in the city too."
