The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's digital classroom, 21CC (21st Century Classroom), is teaming up with Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport and the English Football Association for the 2010 World Cup, to give young people from across the country the chance to air their views on the events in South Africa, while learning creative and media skills from industry professionals.

Ten groups of young people from school groups and sports teams will be producing Extra Time, a bi-weekly Football Focus style programme. The programmes will include news, opinions, reports and animations and will be a young person's take on the World Cup competition action.

Extra Time will launch on Friday 11 June and will be broadcast on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 21CC website – bbc.co.uk/21CC – every Tuesday and Friday for the duration of the World Cup.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport Presenter Gary Lineker says: "21CC's Extra Time could produce the future generation of sport presenters. In fact, they could have my job one day!"

Through a bespoke two day workshop, each group will be given access to training in all aspects of sports journalism and multimedia production. On the first day, participants will spend a day at a local FA football ground picking up interview skills and filming techniques from Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 21CC professionals. They will spend a second day at the 21CC classrooms in London and Salford learning how to edit their material for broadcast, produce short animations and put together and present a live television programme.

The Premiership football clubs taking part in the project are: Arsenal, Blackburn, Blackpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wembley, as well as the Lancashire FA HQ, and Preston North End and Millwall.

Digital technology is now at the forefront of a child's education and it's great that 21CC continues to build children's learning in exciting ways."

The broadcast quality programmes will be overseen by Shelley Alexander, former editor of Football Focus, and will be seen live on the 21CC website, around the country on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Big Screens and on the Community Channel.

Sir Trevor Brooking CBE, Director of Football Development, FA Group, says: "The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's 21CC World Cup project will enable children from a variety of different backgrounds to express their views and opinions during the 2010 World Cup by putting together their own media modules including views, analysis, features and reports.

"It's a great incentive for any young person who has a passion for football and an interest in sports media. I'm sure this year's World Cup will provide plenty of talking points and the young children will have a lot to discuss throughout the project."

Iain Kay, Development Officer, Education for the Lancashire Football Association, says: "Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 21CC's Extra Time project is a great opportunity for young people to gain an insight into the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's sports media coverage and how media pieces are put together from the actual footage being shot, to the editing and then the broadcast, it will be interesting to see what they put together.

"Holding the filming workshops at the Football Association grounds will help to promote all aspects of the FA's work such as Coach Education, Young Leadership programmes, Club Accreditation and much more, helping to raise our profile through the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's comprehensive coverage of the World Cup. I'm sure as with previous World Cups there will be a lot for the young people involved to talk about."

The Extra Time programmes will also feature films made by young people from South Africa through a partnership with the World Film Collective, who teach filmmaking to disadvantaged young people around the globe.

21CC is the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's digital classroom offering free workshops to schools, colleges and community groups for young people aged 5–19 years of age, from centres in Salford and London five days a week throughout the year.

School and College Workshops
School and college workshops range from one-day workshops covering all Key Stages and subjects across the curriculum, through to longer courses for KS4/5 students supporting the teaching of a range of media and graphic design qualifications, including the Creative and Media diplomas. Every workshop is bespoke, designed in discussion with the class teacher to ensure that the content of the workshop is integrated into the curriculum and tailored specifically to the needs of the participants.

Teacher Workshops
21CC is constantly researching new innovations in multimedia technology and developing ways to introduce them into the classroom. 21CC provides teacher workshops for teachers to get to grips with digital technology alongside their peers, providing expert tuition from industry professionals. These practical workshops aim to build confidence in teachers, enabling them to take their new skills back into the classroom and apply them to everyday teaching. Community Workshops
During the school holidays 21CC works with a wide variety of community groups with young people with varying needs and aims, often working in partnership with other Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú departments and external organisations to run larger projects. Working collaboratively on multimedia projects can help nurture relationships within the group and provide young people with a real sense of achievement, as well as equipping them valuable skills for everyday life.

21CC regularly works with both schools and community groups with young people with a wide range of special needs. Every workshop can be adapted to the individual needs of the participants.
