Semi-final double elimination sees Gavin Henson and Scott Maslen swing out of Strictly Come Dancing

Gavin Henson

In tonight's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final results show Gavin Henson and Scott Maslen were voted off, becoming the tenth and eleventh celebrities to leave the competition, narrowly missing out on the chance to compete in next weekend's Grand Final.

The couples performed three dances over the bonanza semi-final weekend, including Strictly's first competitive group dance – the Swingathon – where all five couples took to the floor at the same time.

The combination of the judges' scores and viewer votes meant that Gavin Henson and dance partner Katya Virshilas and Scott Maslen and dance partner Natalie Lowe were in the bottom two and both were eliminated.

Of Gavin and Katya's dance, the judges said:

Alesha Dixon: "I'm much more at ease watching you in Ballroom – this is definitely your thing. I do think sometimes you have timing issues, but actually I thought you did really well. You are the most improved, and I'm actually relaxing so much more watching you dance. That was graceful, your posture is looking good as Len said, and you really should be proud of yourself."

Bruno Tonioli: "Very elegant, very smooth – yes, there were a few little issues – but the improvement from week one and what you've achieved is great. So regardless of what happened, you should be proud because you've done very, very well Gavin. And you did well tonight."

Craig Revel Horwood: "Err, one essential element of dance of course is timing, and that seems to sometimes allude you, darling. Either you chose to cross phrase throughout – there was one section that was in time – or you weren't dancing on the first beat of the bar, sadly."

Len Goodman: "One of the essentials of the Viennese Waltz is good footwork – you had it, good posture – you had it, nice frame – you had it. You lost a bit of musicality, but you have been the underdog over and over. You are my hero, you've come back strong, and good on you, Gaz."

After their elimination, Gavin said: "It's been amazing, awesome. A really brilliant thing to do. Katya's been perfect for me. I came into the competition with two left feet and she's made a little bit of a dancer out of me."

Scott Maslen

Of Scott and Natalie's dance, the judges said:

Alesha Dixon: "That was good, old-fashioned entertainment – great swivels, I thought you were full of personality, I like to see the goofy side of you coming out, and that was a classic Charleston – I really enjoyed it."

Bruno Tonioli: "Once you found your legs again, you were ready to go for it. Charleston is all about entertainment, exuberance and comedy – and you did that very, very well. Very entertaining."

Craig Revel Horwood: "I thought the opening sequence was a little bit nebulous – I didn't know where you were going with that. You over-balanced horribly when you went into the dip to the point of nearly dropping her, but you did save her. I thought the whole thing was rather cute, quirky, and I rather enjoyed it."

Len Goodman: "That Charleston has done you no harm at all. I saw lots of the lovely steps I wanted to see, the swivelling action, not overloaded with gimmicks. A couple of little stumbles here and there, but it was such good fun and lots of high energy."

After their elimination, Scott said "It's the best experience, maybe of my life. Such a learning curve to come in with no skill set – a real challenge. To do it live – even more of a challenge. I've got to where I got because of this woman [Natalie]. She is spectacular."

The celebrities who were left to compete in next week's Grand Final for the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy are: Kara Tointon, Matt Baker, and Pamela Stephenson.

Couples danced either an Argentine Tango, Charleston, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, Tango, or a Viennese Waltz. All the couples danced in Friday's group Swingathon.

Tonight saw a performance from Take That.

In next week's Grand Final our remaining three couples will be dancing four different routines for the public's vote only. The public's favourite will then be crowned the Strictly Come Dancing 2010 Champion.
