Stars of historical drama Oliver Coleman (The Other Boleyn Girl, The Line Of Beauty) and Charlotte Salt (The Tudors, Beowulf) are swapping their stockings for stethoscopes to join Casualty as new doctors.

Seen on TV screens earlier this year in Sky's supernatural series Bedlam, Charlotte (26) joins the Casualty cast as ambitious army medic, Sam Nicholls. Fast-living, fearless and fiery, Sam has a surprising link with another member of the ED team.

Oliver (28) takes the role of paediatric specialist doctor Tom Kent. Gentle, calm and a brilliant children's doctor, Tom finds his maturity at work doesn't always carry over into his private life.

Charlotte will first be seen on-screen in mid-October, with Oliver making his screen debut in January 2012.

Series producer Nikki Wilson says: "Charlotte and Oliver are incredibly talented, much sought-after actors and we're delighted to welcome them to the new Casualty set in Cardiff.

"Both new characters are set to inject a shot of excitement into the emergency department and, as ever, both will have an air of intrigue about them."

Casualty continues to entertain Saturday night audiences with a medicinal mixture of high-action drama, reflection of social and health issues and the everyday lives and loves of the staff at Holby City hospital's emergency department. Having recently celebrated its 25th birthday, Casualty is the world's longest-running prime time medical drama.
