Aki Takahashi
Since her student days at Tokyo University of Arts & Music, Aki Takahashi has been very active in performing new music. She debuted at the Berliner Festwochen and Festival d’Automne in Paris in 1972, and has since performed all over the world.
Her landmark recording, Aki Takahashi – Piano Space, featuring 20 contemporary piano works, received the Merit Prize at Japan Art Festival in 1973. Her series of Erik Satie concerts in Tokyo triggered a Satie boom throughout Japan. In 1980 she was invited by Morton Feldman to become a Creative Associate of the Center of the Creative and Performing Arts at SUNY, Buffalo. She started her Hyper Beatles project in 1989 and 47 composers from around the world created works. Other recordings include 6 CDs of music by Feldman, 2 of Xenakis, 4 of Cage, and one of Scelsi. She has recorded 8 CDs of Schubert’s works, a project which is still ongoing.
