Kylie Jenner and The Anxious Hug Monster — how two young women are fighting back against social anxiety
2 May 2018
“I uploaded two photos and never thought much of it.
“Then I went on a few days after to find I had about 50 followers and a few comments that really made me smile.”
So began an Instagram fan account for Kylie Jenner that has since amassed over 100,000 followers but, more importantly, helped 18-year-old Saffron Scullion deal with the crippling social anxiety that keeps her housebound.

Why Saffron Hasn't Left Her Home In Two Years… And How She Copes With It
Saffron has found a unique way to tackle her anxiety.
The account allows Saffron to regain her connection to the outside world.
“I can talk to people and interact with them without feeling anxious,” she explains.
“I just think she [Kylie] has done so well for herself at such a young age and I look up to her for that. That’s what inspires me the most.
That inspiration has left Saffron optimistic about the future.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to work, go out with my friends and just do normal teen stuff.
The Anxious Hug Monster
24-year-old Bex suffers from various mental health conditions, including anxiety.
Her outlet for the things going on in her head is her artwork.
She illustrates how anxiety makes her feel through drawing ‘the anxious hug monster’.
