The 1980s was the decade of flamboyant pop in a politically-divided Britain, as New Romantics like Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran set the tone. Disco hit the mainstream and then a new disease changed the rules. By the late 80s Britain's sense of masculinity had taken a hammering and it was girls on top.
