Clarrie learns from bitter experience.
Clarrie shows Eddie an article in the Courier. They're having a town crier competition. Eddie isn't interested until Joe suggests he might be able to make a bob or two out of it. Eddie says he'll practice down in the cider hut, but Clarrie insists that all the cider is moved out if he does. Joe and Eddie go down to move it, and Clarrie sends Will to make sure. Eddie and Joe are outraged at her lack of trust.
Lilian is at a bit of a loose end. Matt warns her not to put her New York trip in jeopardy. He turns up unexpectedly later in the day armed with a breathalyser - sure that Lilian will have cheated on her lunch out with a friend. But Lilian is pure and free of alcohol. Matt can't believe it. Lilian goes off to the cider shed and has a drink with Eddie. It turns out that at the last minute Peggy needed her to sit with Jack, so she didn't go out to lunch after all. She's determined to keep the pretence up with Matt though. After all, New York! There's a lot riding on this now.
