Mahmoud Abbas

Stephen Sackur asks Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas whether any progress can be made in the peace process this year, and how new leadership in Israel and the US will affect it.

Later this month, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will brief President George Bush on progress towards a peace deal, but will they have anything to show him? Israel has proposed a partial agreement leaving some issues still to be agreed, but the Palestinian negotiators are adamant that "either we agree on all issues, or there is no agreement at all". Stephen Sackur asks President Abbas whether any real progress can be made this year, and how new leadership in Israel and the United States will affect the peace process.
