Cùisean èigneachaidh rè à m a' chogaidh ann am Bosnia
"Thuirt mi ris, 'a mhic, dhèanainn-sa mà thair dhut'. Bha e dha-rìribh cho òg ri sin. Ach airson trì no ceithir là ithean, bhiodh e a' tighinn nuair a thogradh e. Chanadh e rium, 'Glas an doras agus thoir dhìot d' aodach'. Sin mar a bha e. Bha e uabhasach. A h-uile turas bhithinn a' rà nail às dèidh là imh."
Chaidh Marija Kova? èigneachadh na dachaigh fhèin. Cha robh i eòlach air na fir a thug ionnsaigh oirre. B' e saighdearan a bh' annta, à Arm Searbach na dùthcha. Thachair e faisg air toiseach a' chogaidh ann am Bosnia, an cogadh as fuiltich a tha air a bhith san Roinn ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ bhon Dà rna Cogadh anns na chaill mu 100,000 am beatha.
Chan eil sgeulachd Mharija neo-à bhaisteach. Tha cuid a' dèanamh dheth gun deach mu 30,000 duine èigneachadh san trì bliadhna gu leth a bha an cogadh a' dol.
Tha oidhirpean a' dol eucoirich cogaidh a thoirt gu lagh; aig an tribiunal sa Hague agus ann an cùirtean Bhosnia fhèin.
B' e clach-mhìle a bh' ann nuair a cho-dhùin an tribiunal gum b' urrainn do dh'èigneachadh a bhith air a dhearbhadh san lagh son a' chiad uair mar eucoir cogaidh, eucoir an aghaidh a' chinne-daona no sgrios sluaigh.
A dh'aindeoin sin tha mì-thoileachas ann nach eil gu leòr ga dhèanamh gus na daoine a tha fo amharas nan ionnsaighean èigneachaidh a thoirt gu lagh.
Tha draghan ann cuideachd nach eil taic gu leòr ann do dhaoine nuair a tha iad a' toirt fianais seachad sa chùirt.
Sin, agus draghan mun ìre de shochairean a tha ri fhaotainn dhaibh, a thuilleadh air taic shòisealta, inntinn, is mheideigeach.
Rape cases during the Bosnian war
"I told him 'My son, I could be
your mother'. He was really that young, but for three or four days he came
whenever he felt like it. He'd say to me, 'lock the door and undress'. That is
how it was. It was a horrible experience. I would cry afterwards, every
time."
Marija Kova? was raped in her own home. She didn't know the men who attacked
her. They were soldiers, in the Bosnian Serb Army. This incident happened at
the beginning of the Bosnian War, the bloodiest in Europe since World War II.
Approximately 100,000 lost their lives.
Marija's story is not an unusual one. Some estimate that 30,000 were raped
during the 3 and a half years of the conflict.
Efforts are being made to bring war criminals to justice; at the International
Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and in Bosnia's own courts.
It was an important milestone when the Tribunal established for the first time
that rape could be prosecuted as a war crime, a crime against humanity or
genocide.
Despite that, many are unhappy with the pace at which rape suspects are being
prosecuted.
There are also concerns about lack of support for witnesses when testifying,
and concerns that they don't receive enough financial, medical and social
support.
