Philip Pullman has had phenomenal success with his trilogy His Dark Materials, 'cross over' childrens books which are avidly read by adults. However, the work also raised fierce criticism from some Christians for its portrayal of organised religion. Now he has reinterpreted the gospel stories in his new book The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ, which splits Jesus Christ into two brothers. Razia Iqbal asks him what lies behind his radical reworking of the Bible stories.
