The Motorway Cops are after runaway drivers including a stolen high performance car with a determined thief at the wheel. The thief is so determined that he risks a head-on crash as he drives the wrong way down the motorway, leaving the cops to launch a city-wide search for him.

Meanwhile, when PCs Kevin Whitehouse and Alan Colman track down another stolen vehicle they suspect it's been given a fake identity to avoid detection by the police. But the Motorway Cops know all the tricks of the cloning trade and when he realises he's been caught out they have to resort to strong-arm tactics to subdue him.

And at night a speeder travelling at more than 130 mph alerts the cops who find out the man behind the wheel has good reason to try to get away, while they arrest him two more cops Dave Gaunt and Gary Strain stop another speeding motorist. His story that he's delivering a hire car, so late at night, doesn't wash with them, and what they find in his boot reveals that it's most definitely not only a car he's delivering.
