Gabriel and Joanne wake up in bed in Ruth's flat all set to prepare for today's fashion show. The mood is playful until Joanne blurts out 'I love you'. Gabriel does not reciprocate immediately and the atmosphere quickly becomes awkward. When they later discuss this misunderstanding Joanne is offhand and they both agree that there should be no pressure on their relationship. At the community centre, Eileen is raving to Joanne about the great publicity Amber has given the fashion show. Joanne is upset that Amber seems to be stealing her thunder. Amber picks up on this and tries to reach out, but Joanne cuts her short. Joanne watches as Amber and Gabriel prepare for the fashion show and is jealous of their easy relationship, but her mood soon lightens when she finds a pregnancy kit in Amber's handbag. Joanne then rather disingenuously lets it slip to Murray and Gabriel that Amber might be pregnant, causing Murray to confront Fraser about his irresponsibility.

Back at the community centre Amber and Gabriel discuss their respective love lives, culminating in a champagne toast to 'love'. Fraser bursts in and confronts Amber about her 'pregnancy'. He is angry and irrational but calms down when Amber tells him the test was negative. Fraser tries to backtrack but the damage is done, Amber believes she has seen Fraser's true feelings on their future together. When Joanne talks to Amber later, Amber riles her and, when she is gone, Joanne throws paint over Amber's dresses, sabotaging her contribution to the show. When Amber discovers her ruined collection, it is Gabriel who leaps to her rescue. He also has a fair idea of who was behind the 'accident'. Gabriel and Amber work together to make the night a success but the more Joanne sees of them together, the more jealous she gets until finally her emotions get the better of her and she picks a fight with Amber. Gabriel is shocked by Joanne's behaviour and dumps her but not before hitting her with a few home truths. To make matters worse, just as Gabriel has dumped Joanne, Fraser and Amber make up and confess their true feelings for each other.

Nicole also has a big day ahead of her as star model in the fashion show. Nicole does well to rise above the bullying taunts from Carmen and her gang but can't help but be disappointed when her parents don't make it in time for the show. At the aftershow party, Nicole finds a companion in Nick Morrison and as they chat, they make an emotional connection - both feeling isolated in the world.

Annie performs bogus holistic therapy on Charlie to relax him prior to his driving test. Charlie is easily suckered and Annie thinks there is no harm done if it helps him out. But soon word gets round of Annie's extraordinary healing powers and Annie ends up in hot water after fleecing Molly but having to come clean when Molly suggests Annie treats Scarlett. When Charlie discovers the scam his stress and sore neck immediately return. Annie gives him an inspirational pep talk and off he goes - only to fail again. Though Stella susses what has happened, Charlie can't face telling the others, it'll be their secret for now.

The Rossis are still worried that Ruth isn't accepting any visitors. Moreover, they are no closer to working out what is wrong with Eilidh, and how exactly Ruth is responsible. When Andy arrives back from Dubai, he bumps into Liz but says he needs a lie down and a shower before he can deal with Ruth. When Liz tells Gina this news, Gina can't believe it. Gina storms over to confront him, but Andy is having none of it. If Ruth doesn't want visitors then she won't get any - he throws Gina out of the flat. Later Malcolm has a word with him. In a heart-to-heart, Andy realises that he has a responsibility to do what is best for his wife, even if he doesn't truly understand her illness. Malcolm puts Andy in a taxi to the hospital. However, when Gina and Murray go round to see Andy later, they find his wedding ring and a note. Andy didn't go to the hospital - he left Shieldinch.
