Alan and Ruksaana Schutt and their young family live in a country house apartment in South Devon. But the recent arrival of baby Lily has spurred them on in their dream to find an empty detached house to transform into an ideal family home.

Despite having no experience, Alan and Ruksaana are contemplating a major build.

This will mean leaving their comfort zone behind, as neither of them have taken on more than a little DIY before.

Jules Hudson is at the ready to offer up some guidance through the renovation maze.

He introduces the couple to the renovator of a 15th century farmhouse and barn, and shows them a previously empty state-of-the-art 1960s house, which has been lovingly restored and adapted.
