Paul and Lisa Townend are determined to find themselves a larger home in rural Hampshire.

They're desperate for more space but with a budget of 320,000 pounds they know their only hope of getting a place large enough to suit their needs is to buy an empty property in need of work.

It's been 15 years since Paul did any kind of building work but Jules Hudson is on hand to give them a confidence boost by introducing them to other homeowners who are dab hands at the renovation game.

They visit a stunning 17th-century cottage which was originally three cottages but has been knocked into one and empty for two years. They also meet the owners of an epic restoration project - a Grade II listed, 17th-century, brick and timber barn which has never been lived in but used as an animal shelter for the last 350 years.
