Franco Frattini - Italian Foreign Minister

Stephen Sackur asks Italy's Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, what Italy's decision to recognise the Libyan rebels says about Silvio Berlusconi's priorities and methods.

Italy is currently a key player in the West's response to the conflict in Libya. NATO airstrikes are being launched from its airbases and Italy is bearing the burden of a wave of refugees from North Africa. Until recently, Silvio Berlusconi and Moamar Gaddafi were strong allies, but now the Italians have formally recognised the Libyan rebels. Stephen Sackur asks Italy's Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, what that says about Mr Berlusconi's priorities and methods.
