Pineapple Studios, Tavares & a classic Leonard Cohen album

Debbie Moore OBE remembers founding Pineapple Dance Studios, Pooch from Tavares is on the phone, and Johnnie looks back at a Leonard Cohen album from 1970.

From soul and stax to the reign of the singer-songwriter, Johnnie Walker spins the hits and digs out the rarities from an eclectic decade.

This week, in a packed show, Debbie Moore OBE remembers founding Pineapple Dance Studios; Pooch from Tavares is on the phone to talk about his tour with the Four Tops and The Temptations; and, as Leonard Cohen releases a new album, we look at his most successful release from the 1970s.

Debbie Moore OBE established Pineapple Dance Studios in 1979 after a successful decade of modelling and taking up dancing in the midst of the disco craze. She talks about dance troupes, the birth of her daughter and the move towards lycra in her My 70s.

Also on the show, we celebrate our favourite musical poet, Leonard Cohen. Songs of Love And Hate reached number 4 in the UK album charts in 1970, featuring the beloved Famous Blue Raincoat. After the release of another acclaimed studio album, Old Ideas, we look back at this snippet of Cohen's work, accompanied by archive clips from the man himself talking about his songwriting.
