Gwyneth Paltrow

Series in which celebrities trace their ancestry. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow traces the background of her parents, actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow.

On her mother's side, Gwyneth is fascinated by the story of her great, great grandmother Rosamond, orphaned at a young age but possessing a spirit of adventure which led her and her sister to board a boat for the USA.

Meanwhile, Gwyneth's beloved grandfather Arnold had a tough upbringing and didn't have many good words for his own mother Ida. She suspects there may be more to this story than meets the eye, and indeed uncovers how a tragic string of events undermined the promising career of a bright young woman, leading to disappointment and eventually depression.

Finally, Gwyneth discovers that the family myth that she is descended from a long line of rabbis is not only true, but she encounters ancestors with deep links to the Jewish faith - an experience which has a deep and lasting impression on her.
