Jake Humphrey introduces the best action from qualifying in Sakhir as Formula One returns to Bahrain following last year's decision to cancel the race due to the pro-democracy protests.

This is the eighth staging of a Formula One race in Bahrain - a 3.36 mile circuit famed for its long straights, which are widened at the end to encourage overtaking. Opened in 2004, the 15-turn track was designed with spectators in mind as the sweeping grandstands enable fans to get a bird's eye view of the action.

Two years ago, in the opening race of the new season, it was the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel who was quickest. The German outwitted his rivals by selecting soft tyres, a move swiftly followed by the majority of the other drivers, but none could challenge his ultimately pole position-sitting time of 1:54.101. The Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso were second and third quickest respectively.
