The gloves come off between Eileen and Raymond in their bitter custody battle over Stuart. Stella recruits Stevie to help lift Bob's spirits and Zinnie hunts for a job.

It's Eileen's first day in her new community surgery. With new temp Kelly-Marie, she jumps in head first to deal with her first issue - a complaint lodged about the Tall Ship. Kelly-Marie questions whether it might not be a bit tricky, what with Eileen and Raymond's current relationship woes. But Eileen is dismissive. She's visited by the charming Mark Vincent, local property developer. He's keen to form a relationship with Eileen in order to buy up some property in the area but she sends him packing at first. Meanwhile, Raymond is struggling with recent events. Today's the day of his mediation session with Eileen. All he wants is to spend time with Stuart. But when Eileen discovers them together in the Oyster, an angry exchange ensues, all witnessed by Eileen's new associate Mark, who seems overly interested in her private affairs. Gina berates Eileen for losing her temper with Raymond, but Eileen sticks to her guns - she can't have her son around that man. They're interrupted by a clatter from the kitchen - Stuart has hit his head. Panic follows. He's fine, but Eileen finds herself torn away from her son to attend the mediation session with Raymond.

At the mediator's office, Eileen isn't convinced. She tells Raymond the whole thing is a sham, and threatens to expose the real reason she doesn't want Stuart around him - he's a murderer. At loggerheads, the pair fail to find common ground, and an argument ensues, forcing Raymond to leave. Things only become more difficult when Raymond returns home to find a letter detailing the complaint made about The Tall Ship. He decides there's only one person responsible, their friendly local councillor, and heads off for a confrontation with Eileen. On the way, Miriam lets slip about Stuart's accident, giving Raymond all the ammunition he needs. The next day, Eileen receives a shock visit from a social worker following up reports of child abuse. Eileen is livid, and her relationship with Raymond sinks to a new low. Angry and exhausted, Eileen can't keep her secret anymore, and finally lets slip to Gina about Raymond's murdering ways, but is shocked to find Gina more forgiving than she can be. With that rejection hanging over her, Eileen decides to take a chance, and makes a deal with Mark that seems too good to be true.

Looking for a new purpose, Stevie finds a mission when Stella tells him Bob is feeling low. Bob is still grieving for Deek, and Stella tries to comfort him but nothing seems to be working. After talking, they agree that what Bob needs is something to distract him, and some help at the garage wouldn't go amiss either. Managing to persuade Bob that an apprentice is just what he needs, Stevie sets about finding someone to step in. After a number of false starts, a latecomer to the interviews, Alice, proves to be the perfect candidate, and is hired on the spot.

Meanwhile, Zinnie isn't doing much to impress her new landlord, Raymond. He tells her she needs to get a job, which she cleverly manages to deflect into a conversation about Eileen. But with The Ship closed, she needs to start earning money. She's desperate. She even considers applying for the apprentice position at Bob's garage. Bob surprisingly isn't keen, and suggests she try the dole instead. Later, Zinnie tries to support Raymond when he returns from mediation, but this soon backfires when he tells her she has to move out. She goes begging to Leyla, who offers her a place to live on one condition - she has to find a job. Luckily for Zinnie, a chance encounter with Big Bob leads to exactly that - a job in the Minimarket!
