I was once banned from the First Division football terraces after I took issue with the fans behind me, who were swearing and hurling vitriolic abuse at the players as they left the pitch, after a particularly disappointing game. My sons were furious that I'd chastised the supporters and didn't want me doing it again. Their Dad pointed out that it was a working class club - the fans had spent an enormous amount of their wages on a season ticket and if the pampered players couldn't deliver, they deserved all they got.听 It's hard sometimes, to understand the passion that football can generate. I come from a rugby family, my Grandfather played for and ran the Llanelli Scarlets, my brothers were fantastically fast wingers at their local clubs and we grew up in the era of JPR and Gareth Davis. But rugby, even in the throes of Six Nations, doesn't seem as tribal as football, where your weeks can rise and fall, depending on how your team did.
