Sharon's dinner party does not go to plan, and things get worse when Trish arrives. Sharon uses this to her advantage, but then Shirley turns up intent on causing trouble...

Ava tells Sam to wait outside and sends Dexter on an errand. Dexter sees Sam looking at him as he leaves. Sam explains to Ava his dad has died and it’s made him want to get to know Dexter, if twenty years late. Ava’s furious, saying he can’t turn up now without a thought for what’s best for them. When Billy arrives for the meal, she has to turn him away. Ava tells Sam that Dexter doesn’t need a dad anymore. Dexter arrives back and is perplexed to see Sam, who introduces himself as ‘Jacob’. Learning he’s an old friend of his mum during her raving days, he persuades ‘Jacob’ to stay. When Sam leaves, Dexter tells Ava he’d be perfect for her. On pretence of getting his number, she slips out, only to tell Sam to stay away from them.
The Mitchell dinner, now with Trish in tow, gets worse as Shirley arrives. She starts digging at Sharon, forcing Lola and Roxy to tell her to go. Lola questions Sharon about pouring away her wine and stumbling at the table. Sharon makes her excuses and promises she wouldn’t put Lexi’s life at risk. The guests leave, but as Phil goes to make Sharon a cuppa, we see her take a pill from a bottle hidden in her coat.
Despite the stress audition, Jean’s food passes the scrutiny of Lucy and Bobby, and she’s appointed sous chef at the restaurant.
AJ’s trying it on with Bianca as they wait in the Vic, having left Carol and Masood in the house. But not being forced into anything, Carol and Masood arrive at the Vic, and share an awkward date about which they laugh, walking home. With Bianca and the kids at the Butchers’, Masood takes Carol back to his house…
