Episode 2 of 8

Drama. When Moray's Parisian friend brings her fireworks to the Paradise, sparks fly and innocent victims become embroiled in her games as she awakens their innermost desires.

With the return of Moray the fortunes of the Paradise are on the up, but Moray must box clever if he is to wrest his store back from Tom and Katherine Weston.

Moray welcomes his friend from Paris, Cl茅mence Romanis, to the Paradise. A dazzling and tactile woman, her intimacy with Moray instantly rouses Denise's jealousy. Cl茅mence has come to strike a business deal with the Paradise to sell her fireworks. A display of her creations leaves everyone in awe of the spectacle, but negotiations are delayed when Tom Weston is beguiled by her and insists Cl茅mence dines alone with him before a contract is signed.

Above the joy and enchantment of the fireworks a dark shadow is cast as a cart carrying the half-dead Jonas Franks arrives in the street. Tom watches intrigued as recognition turns to shock on the faces of Moray and Dudley. A concerned Dudley argues with Moray that by offering Jonas shelter they welcome danger, only to find himself indebted to the man he so fears.

The Paradise buzzes with talk of who will replace Miss Audrey as head of ladieswear now she is to marry Edmund Lovett. Cl茅mence questions why Miss Audrey should forfeit her position when she marries, planting a worm in Miss Audrey's mind which sparks an internal battle about her future happiness.

As Cl茅mence openly challenges the limitations of their sex, Denise's jealousy of her soon turns to respect. It awakens something in Denise that will not rest, but as Cl茅mence crosses a line and Dudley becomes entangled in her web, Denise finds herself torn by what is right.

Cl茅mence delights in the consternation and intrigue she creates and capitalises on it for her own gain. She continues to tease Tom Weston, and Katherine is forced to take matters into her own hands when this threatens her carefully crafted world.
