Episode 3
Documentary series looking at the grassroots fight against crime. PCSO Karen encounters a woman she suspects has been shoplifting, but the situation soon turns dangerous.
Police community support officers, or PCSOs, may not enjoy the same full powers of regular police constables, but they have become the mainstay of neighbourhood policing since their introduction in 2002.
This episode follows Karen, a PCSO who patrols Hull City Centre, when she encounters a woman she suspects has been shoplifting - with surprising results.
Without the power of arrest, Karen bravely has to try and detain the (much larger) woman until her colleagues arrive, but the ensuing wrestling match turns into a potentially dangerous situation when the woman's partner in crime appears on the scene.
In Bridlington, more neighbourhood police officers are called to a pub, where a drunken man has let off steam by recklessly throwing a bar stool over the top of the bar. Luckily, CCTV cameras have captured the whole incident and, after a bit of detective work, the team goes on the hunt for the violent offender.
