DR MARIE CLAGUE
Marie is a Researcher for the Manx Heritage Foundation and an expert in Manx Carvals which translate into English as carols. But听Carvels are different from carols because they tend to talk about about death and judgment rather than angels and shepherds!听They are religious verses which were originally changed on Christmas Eve after the end of the Service -听a tradition which continued up until the end of the nineteenth century. Over time some Carvals became associated with certain hymn tunes.

ROSEMARY WALTERS
Rosemary has been the organiser of the Festival of Trees competition for the last 10 years and is very committed to Save the Children.听

OLGA STONE
Olga, a concert pianist, is from the Ukraine. She was the first person from the former USSR to settle on the Isle of Man. Now there are about 100 Russians on the Isle of Man. Olga was brought up an atheist but, in her 20s, became a Christian in the Eastern Orthodox tradition. Olga describes growing up in the Soviet Union where being a Christian was illegal, and how things have changed.听听听 Olga also teaches Russian and Classics at King William College, and she plays the organ at a local church.听

BECKY BANNISTER
Becky has recently left her home on the Isle of Man for the first time to study Law at York University.听 She is enjoying her time away but looking forward to coming home for Christmas.
听
HOWARD PARKIN听BSc. FRAS
Howard is Chairman of the Isle of Man Astronomical Society, and a strong Christian. He also teaches astronomy at a local college. The Isle of Man has a lot of space research on the island 鈥� an increasing number of hyper-tech companies are turning the Isle of Man into a real contender in the global space race.听 A recent international space industry report suggested the island was the fifth most likely nation to next plant its flag on the moon.听Every December for the last few years, Howard has given some lectures on the Star of Bethlehem, which he believes would have been visible from the Isle of Man because of its clear skies.

FESTIVAL OF TREES 鈥� XMAS TREE COMPETITION AT RONALDSWAY AIRPORT听听
Every November/December for the last decade, there has been a 鈥楩estival of Trees鈥� competition at Ronaldsway Airport. About 20 local businesses and charities enter a tree into the competition and the entries are highly imaginative. The trees occupy the first floor at the airport, visible to people arriving home and people seeing departing the island. The competition is judged by judges and the public, who make a donation to Save The Children It鈥檚 a big event in the Isle of Man鈥檚 Christmas season.听
