The three finalists are given the opportunity of a lifetime when they are sent to Osteria Francescana in Italy, Massimo Bottura's unique and innovative restaurant.
The chefs are given the opportunity of a lifetime when they are sent to Osteria Francescana in Italy, the three Michelin starred restaurant recently judged the third best in the world in the San Pellegrino top 50. Currently one of the most unique and innovative restaurants in the world, it is the brainchild of the brilliant and eccentric Massimo Bottura.
The finalists have two days to work with this boundary-pushing chef and first they must try to understand the philosophy behind his food in a masterclass. Through his dishes 'Think Green' and 'Oops! I Dropped the Lemon Tart', Massimo demonstrates his belief that each dish comes from personal emotions and should tell a story. It is now up to the finalists to show that they can too put bring emotion and storytelling to their food by cooking a dish for this great chef.
The finalists return the next day to face the most daunting challenge of their careers so far - Massimo hands over his kitchens to the three chefs to cook his six-course tasting menu for specially invited guests and MasterChef judges Michel Roux Jr, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace. In charge of two dishes each, and cooking at a level they have never come close to before, it is a tough ask for the three chefs. The reputation of the restaurant and their chances of winning the competition now hinge on the most intimidating service of their lives.
Finally, they return to the MasterChef Kitchen to show Michel and Monica just how they have been inspired, by cooking a dish influenced by their experiences in this amazing restaurant.
