Episode 2

Highlights from the series in which the public help the police fight back against crime, with stories including the lorry drivers who stepped in to try and avert disaster.

Julia Bradbury and Adrian Simpson present the second of two compilation episodes from the series showing how the British public help the police fight back against the criminals.

They meet the lorry drivers who bravely stepped in to try and avert disaster when a 30-tonne lorry hurtled down a motorway in the wrong direction.

But physically fighting back is always full of risk, and there are numerous and often better ways you can play your part in helping the police, as Fightback reveals.

Adrian investigates how you can catch a thief from the comfort of your own home using a system that allows subscribers to watch live CCTV feeds on behalf of shopkeepers, and if you spot a thief you win 拢10. Adrian enjoys spotting a shoplifter in the act of nicking a magazine, but goes on to question whether such systems are a bit of a snooper's charter.

Plus the man whose computer software enabled his stolen laptop to email him pictures of the people it ultimately wound up with as they sat unaware in bed, before being arrested by the police!

Jewellers are aware that, any day, they could be targeted by armed criminals. And they are taught not to fight back - advice Raj Pattni ignores. Caught on CCTV, Raj risks his life as armed intruders break into his shop and start to ransack his jewellery cabinets. Raj tries to keep the robbers at bay by swinging at them with a baseball bat. Raj still feels a sense of pride in the way he fought back, but admits he took a serious risk and could have been seriously injured.

Finally, the woman who was so tired of getting her knickers stolen from her washing line that she sets a trap using night vision cameras to catch the thief in the act and hang him out to dry, only to be thwarted initially by her husband falling asleep on the job!
