7 Bone
Restaurateur Russell Norman helps newcomers to the trade. Rich and Matt start up an edgy burger restaurant in Southampton. London restaurateur Russell Norman offers advice.
Many of us dream of packing in the day job and starting a restaurant, but few are brave enough. Especially when it means quitting a job in the city, risking life savings with a young family to support - and all with no catering experience whatsoever.
In the first episode of the series, two best friends do all of the above as they try to set up an edgy burger restaurant in Southampton. With a flat economy and an already saturated burger market, their confidence could be dangerously naive. Enter Russell Norman, star of the mercurial and cutthroat London restaurant scene, who has opened seven restaurants himself thus far, in the middle of the recession, to rave reviews and queues around the block.
An astute and steely businessman, Russell gives these novices the benefit of his experience during the crucial few months before and after they open for business. Yet with a plethora of problems including the burger, their service and the layout of the restaurant Rich and Matt's dream is far from reality. After months of preparation and hard graft will their friendship survive and will they open their doors to their first paying customer?
