What connects bridges, whitewashed cottages, roads and toothpaste in Moneymore and Desertmartin?  Lime that’s what!  Landscape Officer with theStéphanie Blaine is in studio to talk about the heritage of the industry and to invite local people to share their memories. 

The Sperrins Gateway Partnership will be running a short training course to collect stories and an afternoon of sharing stories of the lime and quarry industry. These are both running on the 8th February in Moneymore’s Manor House.

Anne Marie visits the Artspace at and speaks with Dwyer McKerr, Julie McGowen and Paul King from the North Armagh Artists Collective.  She also speaks with Catherine McNeill from Craigavon Borough Council about the art initiative at the nature reserve.

Good news for trees this week as the has received a grant for the Faughan Valley where 53 acres of land which will become home to up to 55,000 new trees. Patrick Craig, Director of the Woodland Trust, talks to Anne Marie about this great news for the North West.

Archaeology, the Abbacy and Ards all feature on the programme as there has been a lot of discovery thanks to a dig around the 17th Century ruin near Portaferry.  Archaeology Liam McQuillan from NIEA's Historical Monuments Department reveals some hidden truths on the Ards Peninsula.  Liam is taking a talk ‘Archaeology at the Abbacy’ on Wednesday 12th February at 8pm at the Ards Arts Centre in the Town Hall. Admission is free.

YPAM reporter Marie McStay has been following the journey of a 1100 year old High Cross which was removed from Down Cathedral in Downpatrick and is now going through a bit of a make-over.  She visits McConnell’s Stone Specialist in Kilkeel as they carry out some essential repair work to this important religious relic.   

Newry, Co. Down is honouring the life and times of one of its self-made entrepreneurs, Francis Carvill (1800-1854) helped shape the city we know today.  Author Michael McKeown from the Ulster History Circle shares the story of this business man and philanthropist.  The latest Blue Plaque for Newry, in honour of Francis Carville, will be unveiled at the Canal Court next Saturday February 15th.

Choppers, boneshakers, penny farthings and tandems at the Victoria Road in Larne ahead of the Giro d’Italia 2014, which will make a pit stop there in May.  The are asking people for their bike memorabilia for a collection to coincide with the famous race.  Rachel McMaster is the Arts and Events Officer at the centre and she wheely needs you.
