Hazel Irvine introduces the action on day one of the Winter Olympics. Great Britain has high hopes of achieving its highest-ever medal haul in Sochi, and has a real prospect of opening that account in the first event of these Games, through Billy Morgan, who competes in the men's snowboard slopestyle. The 24-year-old from Southampton has had his injury problems in the build-up to Sochi but was fourth at the 2013 World Championships, and will fancy his chances of winning Team GB's first-ever Olympic medal on snow.
The first women's event of the Games is in cross country skiing, where Marit Bjoergen is among the favourites. The Norwegian's five-medal haul in Vancouver was the best by any athlete at the 2010 Winter Olympics, and she will be expecting to add to that tally today.
