In the Beechgrove Garden, Jim continues to deal with the aftermath of the extreme wet weather that we experienced over winter, and reminds us to feed perennials and woody plants, especially those recently planted.

Carole and Chris are in the fruit house, adding some small but beautifully formed new container fruit, including quince, apricot and cherry, which will produce jam on anyone's patio. Root vegetables love nothing better than a bit of bottom heat, and Chris is trying a new way with an old technique as he builds a 'hot bed' to grow monster carrots and fast.

In the first of three visits throughout the series, Carole is at Scone Palace, where the community are helping create a new community kitchen garden. Scone Palace head gardener and the pupils of Robert Douglas Memorial School start planting a whole range of vegetable crops in polytunnels and under cloches, and if the weather has been kind, in the open ground.
