Now is the perfect time to do some handweeding in your borders. This means getting down on your hands and knees and pulling out what you don鈥檛 want. If you鈥檙e not sure what is a weed and what isn鈥檛, leave the seedlings to grow on a bit longer and deal with them then.

It鈥檚 important to stake peas before they get all tangled. Brushwood is the traditional thing to use, but any twiggy prunings will do the job or even netting. 聽As long as you have plenty of material for the growing tendrils to entwine, they鈥檒l happily support themselves.

Although daffodils and tulips are fading fast now, it鈥檚 important to allow the foliage and stems to die back naturally over the next few weeks. It鈥檚 tempting to cut them back as they look so ugly, but resist the urge if you can! It鈥檚 a good idea to cut off the old flower heads, however, to avoid energy being wasted in the production of seed.
