Andy Frost is the Director of the Pentecost Festival which aims to inspire people across the country to celebrate Pentecost in their own churches and communities.Ìý Andy describes himself as a surf-obsessed, movie-loving, Bible-reading, globe-trotting Londoner.Ìý He is also the Director of Share Jesus International and is passionate about seeing how the Church can reconnect with society and culture.Ìý He is the main speaker at the Biggest Birthday Party Ever.

The Rebirth Network

The Rebirth Network is a leading urban Christian Dance company, specialising in hip hop/contemporary dance theatre.Ìý They are taking part in the Pentecost Festival 2014 which has been hosting The Biggest Birthday Party Ever in various venues across the country.Ìý Rebirth has been performing their piece based on the story of the first Pentecost from the book of Acts at the events.

The track that Rebirth perform their choreographed dance piece to within the programme is called ‘Epic Orchestral Battle Music’ and was composed by Alex Moukala.

The Place

Diane went to meet The Rebirth Network at their rehearsals which took place at dance studios, The Place.Ìý The Place is home to the London Contemporary Dance School and offers rehearsal and performance space for contemporary dance.

Mariam George

Mariam is a doctor working in palliative care with terminally ill patients, a career that she describes as tragic but fulfilling.Ìý Pentecost is important to her because she feels she relies heavily on support from the Holy spirit, to be able to provide the comfort andÌý people need as they reach the final 'lap' in life.

Mariam works at the LOROS Hospice in Leicester.

Pastor Sunny George

Sunny George is the Pastor at All Saints’ Church, a multi lingual, multi-cultural church in the heart of Leicester.Ìý Sunny George taught Engineering in India and moved to England in 2006.Ìý He joined the Leicester United Christian Fellowship, a small group of mainly Indian and Pakistani Christians which met together to worship, and they asked Sunny to be their Pastor.Ìý The group grew and were looking for somewhere to worship, when the Bishop intervened and suggested they move to a church which had recently closed, becoming part of the Church of England.Ìý Sunny gave the church the name All Saints’ as a mark of inclusivity of the new church.Ìý Worship fuses together many of the languages spoken in Leicester including Punjabi, Urdu, Hindustani and English, together with a rich blend of musical styles.

The track that the All Saint’s congregation perform their choreographed dance piece to within the programme is called ‘Badal Geya’ and the lyricist, composer and singer is Subhash Gill.

Paul Benney

Artist Paul Benney’s latest painting, Speaking In Tongues, will be on public display for the first time in Leicester Cathedral, standing in front of the High Altar.Ìý The 12 x 8 feet painting depicts the twelve Apostles at Pentecost, with tongues of fire coming out of their heads.Ìý Paul is a humanist who is very interested in Christian teachings and has used the idea of fire coming out of people’s heads in paintings before.Ìý The Apostles in the painting are modelled on friends of the artist and the whole painting is covered in a polymer resin, so the person viewing it is reflected back at themselves.

The Very Revd David Monteith, Dean of Leicester

David Monteith is Dean of Leicester Cathedral and the Cathedral was very keen to display the painting, which captures an ethnically diverse group and which very much reflects the community of Leicester.Ìý The painting will be in Leicester until July, when it goes to London and then on a tour of Cathedrals in the United Kingdom.

Music

Come Down O Love Divine was performed by Leicester Cathedral Choir and was led by the choir master Chris Johns.

Steal Away was performed by Celeste. Celeste is made up of five singers called Nell, Nikki, Polly, Milly, and Cat. All former cathedral choristers, the girls are steeped in the wonderful English Choral Tradition but their musical tastes are wide-ranging and they sing everything from classical through jazz to pop.
