Cookery competition. In the first of the semi-finals the hopefuls cater for Shakespeare's birthday, using a selection of ingredients that would have been available in his time.

After four weeks of intense competition it's the first of the semi-finals and the best eight cooks remain.

The show kicks off with a trip back in time, catering for Shakespeare's 450th birthday. One hundred members of the Shakespeare Society have gathered at Mary Arden's Farm, birthplace of William Shakespeare, to celebrate the anniversary. In a battle between the girls and the boys, they must work in specially-constructed kitchens in marquees, on equipment they have never worked on before, so conditions are tough! The teams must design and create four mouth-watering dishes each (a meat dish, fish, vegetarian and dessert) from a selection of ingredients that would have been available at the time, including mutton, rabbit, pigeon and rainbow trout as well as a selection of fruit and vegetables and herbs and spices.

Next it's back to the MasterChef kitchen where they face the Great British Classic Mystery Box Test and must fight for their place in the competition. Eight mystery boxes contain the ingredients and recipe to make a different British classic, from stargazy pie to the queen of puddings; the celebrities must pick a box at random and then cook the dish that's inside perfectly. In a twist, as well as being judged by John and Gregg, the celebrities are also faced with a surprise guest judge, who they must also impress.

At the end of this challenge two more celebrities will be going home, and their dream of being Celebrity MasterChef champion 2014 will be over.
