From the unique setting of the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, the 2014 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo celebrates the Year of Homecoming with a cast of more than 1000 performers. The emphasis is on the Commonwealth, with Zulu warriors from South Africa, steel drummers from Trinidad and Tobago, Maori and Ceilidh dancers from New Zealand, military bands from Malta and Singapore and a cultural song and dance troupe from India's Nagaland.

In this truly international event, the Tattoo Highland Dancers feature dancers from Scotland, New Zealand, Canada and Australia in one of the finest dance displays ever seen on the Castle Esplanade.

The home nations are represented by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, massed fiddlers from Shetland and with the Royal Marines celebrating the 350th anniversary of their founding, the bands of HM Royal Marines Plymouth, Portsmouth and Scotland take centre stage. The Massed Pipes and Drums continue the Commonwealth theme with the home team of British Army pipers being joined by bands from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Tasmania.

With a flypast from the Red Arrows as a curtain raiser, music, dance and precision display against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle are guaranteed.

The programme is narrated by Bill Paterson.
