Mother to daughter, generation after generation. For over 2000 years, the women of Jeju Island off South Korea have survived by becoming Haenyos (women sea divers). The Last Mermaids follows these women, aged 45-85, as they dive deep into the ocean; with only their leaded belts and a sharp knife each, they skillfully pick abalone, top shell and octopus. They have fought men, governments and armies to protect their right to make a living from the sea. These are The Last Mermaids.
