Steve McNamara's England side go into the fourth instalment of this tournament without rugby union-bound star man Sam Burgess and Kevin Sinfield, who has retired from international rugby league. They will be desperate to go one step further than in two of the three previous finals in which they were heavily beaten on both occasions by Australia. Their opponents Samoa booked a place in the tournament courtesy of a comfortable 32-16 victory in a play-off decider against Fiji back in May.
Two-time winners Australia, who also won the World Cup last year, are without their star player Billy Slater through injury but still boast a phenomenally talented squad and are favourites ahead of neighbours and co-hosts New Zealand.
