When Angels come to town

You’ll find angels with the cleanest faces in Northern Ireland, well in Ballymoney anyway. 45 of them have descended on St James' Presbyterian Church on St James Road in the town, all part of a special ‘Angel Festival’ Parishioner Catherine Finney helped organise it, and will join art teacher Ivan McCann, who made one of the angels, to tell us more. 

The Angel Festival is on this weekend in St James Presbyterian Church in Ballymoney - open til 10 0 clock Saturday 6th December, and from 2 Sunday 7th.

Ancient sites and monuments, objects and curiosities, views of the landscape – all part of the a fascinating chapter in the history of the Ordnance Survey, from 1830 and 40.  Angelique Day is vice chair of the Ulster Historical Association has written a new book about this period called Glimpses of Irelands Past – the book is out now, published by the Royal Irish Academy.

A few weeks ago on the show we were talking about farming the way it used to be - because of an exhibition that's on at the Braid Museum in Ballymena - Mary McArthy from Newtowncrummlin was on, from a reminiscence group in the Glens of Antrim, who meet every week - and Anne Marie decided to go along to one of their get togethers, where she met Mary and the Glenswomen.

Behind the Wooden Counter

Pearl Hutchinson grew up the Finn Valley in County Donegal, near Stranorlar, where her father had a shop called Paradise House that sold everything from a needle to an anchor. Pearl's vivid memories of that time in her life have inspired her latest book which she's called, Behind the Wooden Counter. Anne Marie took a walk with Pearl near her new home in Kilrea.  

Behind the Wooden Counter, Life in an Irish Country Shop is out now - all proceeds in aid of Helping Hands and Healing Hearts in the Phillipines.

Christmas in Drumquin

Fermanagh women, Tyrone men and Christmas trees are all coming together in Drumquin Church of Ireland. Marion Martin and Mary O'Kane have helped organise Drumquin Christmas Tree Festival, which is on Saturday 6th December from 2pm until 9pm, and Sunday 7th from 1pm until 4pm - refreshments served in the church hall and local choirs will perform across the weekend, with a carol service to finish the event on Sunday evening
