Weekend Woman's Hour: Kristin Scott Thomas, Julie Andrews, Diana Henry

Kristin Scott Thomas talks about her new film, Julie Andrews celebrates 50 years since the release of The Sound of Music, and food writer Diana Henry shares her chicken recipes.

Kirsten Scott Thomas will be talking about her latest film Suite Francaise the story of a young woman living with her mother in law whilst her husband is a prisoner of war.

We hear from the activist, Oby Ezekwesili, who started the #BringBackOurGirls campaign who explains why she refuses to give up and believes all girls have the right to an education.

Ahead of Mothering Sunday we look at "The Daughterhood," a group aimed at helping women improve their relationship with their mum or at least accept the one they currently have.

Julie Andrews reflects on her award winning career - 50 years after the release of The Sound of Music.

Plus we look at what it means to be a Black Feminist? What separates Black feminism from mainstream feminism and is it necessary?

And Diana Henry talks about her latest cookbook called A Bird in the Hand which features just recipes for chicken.

Kristin Scott Thomas

Kristin Scott Thomas stars in a new film "Suite Francaise" based on the international best- selling novel by Irene N茅mirovsky. The half-finished novel was discovered by her daughter having laid in a suitcase in the attic fifty years after Irene鈥檚 death in a concentration camp in 1942. Suite Francaise is a romantic drama set during the Second World War German occupation of France and聽tells the story of Lucile as she awaits news from her husband 鈥� a prisoner of war, whilst leading a stifled existence with her domineering mother-in-law, played by Kristin Scott Thomas.聽She joins Jenni to talk about the extraordinary story behind the book, the problem of ageism in the film industry and why she is giving up films for the theatre.

Bring Back Our Girls

The extraordinary activist, Oby Ezekwesili, who started the campaign to rescue more than 200 Chibok girls who were abducted by Boko Haram in April 2014, arrived in London from Nigeria on Saturday 7th March to speak at the WOW Festival at London鈥檚 Southbank Centre. Oby joined Jane in the Woman鈥檚 Hour glass box at WOW to highlight that the abducted girls are still missing and the world must not move on until they are home. Oby also explains why she refuses to give up and why she believes all girls have the right to an education.

Daughterhood

Do you, as a daughter, have a good, bad or guilty relationship with your mother? Do you sometimes wonder how other women manage to navigate this complex, sometimes frustrating and joyous relationship鈥� and want to improve your own? Irish Times columnist Roisin Ingle and confidence expert Natasha Fennell got together to form 鈥淭he Daughterhood,鈥� a group of women who met monthly to discuss how they got on with their mothers and to work out a strategy for improving or at least accepting their individual circumstances. They join Jenni to discuss what they found.

Can Porn Empower Women? Phone-In

In a special programme for International Women's Day Jane Garvey hosted the Woman's Hour debate, where guests discussed the motion Porn Can Empower Women. Continuing the conversation, Psychotherapist Philippa Perry joins Jane as listeners discuss the topic.

Julie Andrews

Fifty years since the iconic film The Sound of Music was released, Julie Andrews reflects on her award winning career in which she has been a child performer, a Broadway star, an Oscar winning film actress and an author of children鈥檚 books. A DVD celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film has just been released and includes a new documentary in which Julie returns to Salzburg to retrace the story of the Von Trapp family.

If you鈥檙e a regular listener of Woman鈥檚 Hour, you鈥檒l have heard different women discuss the values that underpin their feminism. We look at what it means to be a Black Feminist. What separates Black feminism from mainstream feminism and is it necessary? Chardine Taylor-Stone is a writer, musician, activist and the curator of an event celebrating Black feminism that鈥檒l be at the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton, South London this Saturday. Heidi Mirza is a professor of Race, Faith & Culture in the Sociology department at Goldsmiths University.

Award聽winning food writer Diana Henry is back in the Woman鈥檚 Hour Studio rustling up a tangy Turkish inspired fresh and spicy salsa to be served with the subject of her new book: chicken. 鈥楢 Bird in the Hand鈥� is Henry鈥檚 9th cook book and celebrates the meat, with recipes from around the world, and meals ranging from comfort food to celebratory feasts.
