New lock gates for Newry Canal
Newry Canal opened in 1742. It was designed to link Tyrone coalfields, via Lough Neagh and the River Bann to the Irish Sea at Carlingford Lough, It was the first summit level canal to be built in Ireland or Great Britain. The Inland Waterways Association are now developing that summit level stretch which means new gates and a farmyard near Mayobridge. Peter Maxwell explained to Marie McStay how this all came about.
New Riverside Park
The new Riverside Park in Ballymoney is a superb open space with around 40 acres of parkland. You can enjoy a short walk around the duck pond and wildfowl sanctuary and even feed some of the resident ducks and geese. Ballymoney woman Rosie told Anne-Marie about the beautiful walk.
