How the men and women of RAF Bomber Command turned their wartime skills to humanitarian food drops and bringing POWs home after VE Day.

On VE Day 1945, tens of thousands of men and women from RAF Bomber Command, stationed in Lincolnshire, joined in the celebrations. It was the end of a deadly bombing war, waged from remote rural airfields. The death rate among aircrew had been appallingly high. In peace, the airmen now turned their skills to humanitarian food drops and bringing home POWs. Meanwhile, both military and civilians began to adjust to life after war.
