Hosted by James Martin, The Box is a cooking competition with a difference, celebrating what families all around the country do every day when they open their cupboards and try to create something delicious for dinner. It's an inspirational and entertaining insight into the achievable, affordable and aspirational treats that can be whipped up on the hoof. With James Martin at the helm, it's also full of brilliant tips for home cooks of all levels.

Three enthusiastic home cooks are pitted against each other as they try to make delicious dishes using the day's ingredient boxes. The first test is to create something from a box put together by Call the Midwife star Helen George. In the second challenge, James Martin selects the ingredients to go into three new boxes. The contestants have to choose between a chocolate box, a basic box and a meat box.

Based on the dishes from the second test, James Martin decides who triumphs and wins Cook of the Day!
