The RSPB鈥檚 Bempton Cliffs reserve is the largest mainland sea bird colony in the UK. Home to more than 250,000 sea birds Ellie Harrison heads to sea and joins Keith Clarkson and his team on an historic bird count. This time however there鈥檚 a rather different bird taking to the skies鈥�

Wildlife Photographer of the year finalist Steve Race is also on hand to teach Ellie a few tricks of the trade whilst photographing birds that can dive from the skies at 60mph. Witnessing one of nature鈥檚 great spectacles Ellie has the difficult task of photographing a diving Gannet as one plummets from the sky.

Once an accepted part of countryside life, today the sight of Gypsy and Traveller caravans pulled over at the side of the road can provoke upset and anger. But are they forced into parking in public places or setting up home without planning permission because there aren鈥檛 enough legal places to stop? Tom investigates the drastic action one town took to deal with illegally parked Gypsies and Travellers and meets a local councillor in another part of the country who鈥檚 making them welcome.聽

The East Riding of Yorkshire has been called the bread-basket of Yorkshire. Matt Baker takes a trip to see this for himself whilst visiting one of the largest family owned farms in the UK. Meeting farm director Philip Huxtable on the massive 10,000 acre farm Matt sees what it takes to produce food on this scale. Matt gets to see how the fields, livestock and environment are all at the heart of farming on this scale. He also takes a turn at mucking out some of the 35,000 pigs the family also rear.

John Craven is joined by comedian & keen wildlife photographer Bill Bailey and children鈥檚 wildlife presenter Naomi Wilkinson for the launch of this year鈥檚 Countryfile Photographic competition.聽

The theme for the 2015 competition is 鈥楾he Colours of the Countryside' and John, Bill and Naomi will be judging your entries later in the year. But, to get you in the mood, the three judges are visiting College Lake in Hertfordshire to try their hand at capturing some colourful photos of their own.聽

Once a chalk quarry, College Lake is now managed for the benefit of wildlife. With an array of habitat including marsh, chalk grassland, arable wildflower meadows and woodland, it鈥檚 a landscape that displays a glorious spectacle of colour throughout the year. But, as Bill and Naomi discover, capturing 鈥楾he Colours of the Countryside鈥� is sometimes easier said than done.

Adam Henson is in Lincolnshire to launch聽 鈥淎dam鈥檚 County Breeds鈥� 鈥� a new item on Countryfile, singing the praises of farm animals that are linked to particular counties.

Over the coming months Adam will be looking at county breeds from across the UK 鈥� and meeting the dedicated farmers who are keeping them alive.

Lincolnshire used to have five county breeds 鈥撀� the Lincoln Longwool Sheep, Lincoln Red Cattle, Lincolnshire Curly Coat Pigs, Lincoln Buff poultry and the Lincolnshire Black 鈥� a relative of the shire horse.

Sadly the horses vanished a long time ago, and the pigs became extinct in 1972.聽 The chickens also disappeared 鈥� but have been re-created in the past 20 years, thanks to the dedication of local breeders.

Adam goes to the Lincolnshire Wolds to see Louise and Ian Fairburn, who are also huge fans of the Lincolnshire Longwool sheep.聽

They have an award winning herd 鈥� and are preparing their animals for the annual Lincolnshire Show later this week.

Then he visits Julian and Hazel Hammond who rear Lincoln Red cattle 鈥� and sell the meat in their own butcher鈥檚 shop.

If you want to see Lincoln Longwool sheep at their best 鈥� you could see Louise鈥檚 at the on 24th and 25th June.

Each year more than 8 million tonnes of litter are put into the world鈥檚 oceans. 20,000 tonnes is put into the North Sea alone. Ellie heads to the East Riding of Yorkshire to meet Kat Sanders from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to find out about a new community initiative called Fishing4Litter. By working with communities and the fishing industry they hope to start making a dent into this costly and deadly problem.

East Yorkshire might not be the first place you think of when someone mentions chalk streams.聽 As Matt finds out when he meets local farmer Andrew Dixon it is in fact home to Europe鈥檚 mostly northerly chalk streams. These streams haven鈥檛 always been well looked after and Matt learns about how these streams have been restored to the former glory and are now home to some of the best trout fishing in the whole country. With rod and fishing tackle in hand Matt can鈥檛 resist having a go for himself.
