Poachers
Series in which Dr Rhys Jones tackles wildlife crime. Rhys joins a team comprised of various specialist agencies to crack down on poachers.
On the frontline of Welsh wildlife crime, Dr Jones breathlessly pursues poachers on his home patch of Cardiff, a snake in the grass in the Vale of Glamorgan and killer prawns in our rivers. Incidences of fish poaching along the river Taff have trebled in the last five years, and in this episode of Wildlife Patrol, Rhys joins a team from South Wales Police, Natural Resource Wales and the Fisheries Enforcement Team in a crackdown on offenders. On their first day of patrolling the Taff in central Cardiff, Rhys and wildlife crime officer PC Mark Goulding end up in hot pursuit - on foot and a borrowed bike - of a suspected poacher. Maintaining the watery theme, Dr Jones then undertakes some cutting edge e-DNA science alongside Cardiff University colleague Professor Pete Killie, as the pair of them don wellies and wade into Welsh waterways in an attempt to tackle the latest alien invader to our shores: killer prawns.
