The spectacular scenery of the Lake District provides the setting for Songs of Praise, as the programme joins Christian festival the Keswick Convention in their big tent near the shores of beautiful Derwentwater. Religious songwriter Stuart Townend and poet Stewart Henderson reveal what inspires their work, and more than 2000 join the singing.

Keswick Convention

Gareth and Clare WroeÌýand their children, are regular attenders at the Keswick Convention – this year they are attending with 10 families from their church, camping in one of the Convention's campsites. ÌýGareth himself has been coming to the Convention for 26 years. ÌýÌý<?

Jonathan Lamb

CEO and minister-at-large, Keswick Ministries

Jonathan first attended the Keswick Convention as a student in the 1970s and it was a formative experience for him, bringing about his decision to devote his energies to Christian ministry.ÌýÌý He remained involved in the Convention over subsequent years, eventually becoming a speaker at the Convention, then its Chairman, and recently its CEO.

Marie BellÌý

Marie Bell is a long-standing volunteer steward at the Keswick Convention – this is her 10th year. ÌýHer key responsibilities are the safety of the Convention guests and to provide help and support to anyone in need of a listening ear.

Rebekah Mills–Strawson

Rebekah is a volunteer BSL interpreter for deaf people who come to the Keswick Convention. She interprets both the seminars and the worship.

Stuart TownendÌýÌý

Stuart TownendÌýis one of the leading worship songwriters of his generation and has been aÌýregular performer at the Keswick Convention over recent years.Ìý At this year's Convention he is also hosting 'An Audience with Stuart Townend' as well as leading worship.

Guardians of Ancora

The Scripture Union have just launched a new game or app for phone and tablet called Guardians of Ancora aimed at engaging children with bible stories. Radzi Chinyanganya from Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú’s Blue Peter has visited a beach mission in Cornwall where the game is being trailed on a group of children.

Stewart Henderson

Stewart Henderson has been writing poetry since he was in his teens. His poems are well known to many and are studied as part of many school curriculums - his best known poems being ‘Who Left Grandad at the Chipshop?’ and ‘All Things Weird and Wonderful.’

He regularly performs at Christian events and presents Pick of the Week for Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 4.Ìý

For Songs of Praise he visitedÌýSt Oswald’s church in Grasmere where William Wordsworth is buried and his personal Prayer Book is on displayÌý

And ‘Surprise View’ near Ashness bridge, just outside Keswick.
